About Camelia Maniu Smyth
I am an accredited Bowtech
The Bowen Technique (also known as Bowtech, the Original Bowen Technique or Bowenwork) is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that utilises subtle inputs to the body stimulating the body to heal itself, often profoundly. Bowenwork addresses the entire body, by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors. Most people today live in a constant state of high stress and sympathetic ANS over-stimulation (fight, flight or freeze mode). Healing can occur only after the ANS shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode). Bowen Technique enables that shift. During a session, the client often drops into deep relaxation or falls asleep.
I work with clients of all ages, including babies. A typical Bowen Technique session generally lasts from 15 to 50 minutes. Clients usually lie on a massage/bodywork table or bed, or may be seated in a chair if required, for comfort. Bowenwork involves one or more procedures, each of which consists of several sets of ‘moves’. The ‘move’ is a very gentle and relaxing myofascial release technique that involves small rolling movements over certain body structures followed by periods of rest for 2-10 mins. The movements and the rest combined affect the body’s nervous system, cause a deep relaxation and facilitate the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention.
BowenStorm Therapy is built around the traditional Bowen move and brings together therapeutic principles and structural, energetic, lymphatic, fascial, and paediatric techniques. It aims to relax and open the body energetically through manual techniques to harmonize the musculo-fascial chains and ultimately restore the most optimal posture possible. It uses energy techniques to help “fine-tune” and enhance the effects generated by the manual techniques applied.
Systematic Kinesiology looks at health from a whole-person perspective. By working with emotional, nutritional, physical, and energetic systems, it supports the body in achieving positive results. Using muscle testing as a form of biofeedback, the practitioner can identify what is causing stress in the body and determine what it needs to return to balance.
